Following a demographic change and the increasing demand for shared housing for the elderly, a former clinic centre built in the 1970s is converted into an apartment complex. Located in the exclusive neighbourhood of Berlin Grünewald, the complex is divided in two buildings, both with their distinct character: a smaller, L-shaped building, and a terraced, cruise ship-looking higher slab. The two buildings are connected by an underground garage and a garden on street level. The exterior of the building is restored to its original look, with many balconies creating layers of depth on the facades through shades, outstanding elements, and voids. The interior is transformed into arrays of one and two-bedroom apartments, grouped around a central corridor and along the facades. The basement floor is dedicated to a SPA, fitness and medical care facilities. The ground floor hosts apartments and a restaurant with an outside terrace. The upper floors of the main building offer a few spacious three-rooms apartments and penthouses, with large roof terraces. The project aims to build a community for living collectively instead of secluded, in a friendly and efficient environment with all amenities and the benefits of service management.
